Routes CILLORIGO DE LIÉBANA

HILL-WALKING IN THE MUNICIPALITY The capital of the municipality, Tama, is the ideal place to go hill-walking in Cillorigo, with short and easy walks. It is possible to walk up to the district of Aliezo, along its narrow alleys and reach, in very little time, the district of Llayo. On the other hand we can cross the bridge, built at the expense of Laredo´s mace,, and take a left-hand side path taking us to the village of Potes, passing in front of the village of Ojedo, on the other bank of the river Deva. From this same bridge we can follow the road towards Viñón and on the first pronounced turn a path takes us to Castro-Cillorigo, after passing by the hermitage of San Francisco, and near some nice and tall poplars on the banks of the river Deva. From Castro-Cillorigo, we leave its parochial church behind and ascend along the old path taking us to Pendes, where we can contemplate some magnificent chestnut tree specimens, many of them older than 100 years old. We can get closer to the chestnut wood called El Habario and go up to look over the gorge and valley where the municipality of Cillorigo lies. If, on the other hand, we are willing to enjoy heights, we can go from Cabañes to Bejes, saving the mountain pass of Pelea along the track, or, from San Pedro de Bedoya, go up to the Taruey Col, and later reach Braña de Los Tejos (yew trees); with some wonderful clusters of millennial yews which were of the old sacred tree for those tribes who used to live in this area. Through Viñón we can join the track which, from Potes, and crossing the village of Rases, goes up to Trulledes and along the hard channel of San Carlos, arrives to the Sagrado Corazón peak, in the Eastern Massif of Picos de Europa. The last excursion to ascend from Ojedo to the district of Casillas, goes through the chestnut wood, where a specimen next to the track, stands out. It is known by the name of "La Narezona", and it´s possibly the biggest in Spain of this kind. We can still go up to the hermitage of San Tirso, enjoy the landscape and, if we have any energies left, reach the col of Tava and arrive to the village of Cahecho (Cabezón de Liébana).
