Liébana is rich in altar-pieces, images and popular paintings or medieval towers, but, above all, is for presence of its most singular monuments: Santa María de Lebeña, Santa María de Piasca and the monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana. Three compulsory visits, together with the numerous manor and emblazoned houses, which make the visitor to Liébana totally enjoy the richness of the region´s monuments. |

The region of Liébana
is a land with a rich historical background which preserves a legacy
of particular interest. The presence of megalithic monuments in the
passes and alpine areas; the funeral stars (as a memory to the people
who defended their independence bravely); the primitive hermitages (evidence
of the first years of Christianization); the mediaeval monasteries and
churches preserving the romanic, gothic, and even, the neoclasithism,
within the different art stages.
