The municipality of Vega de Liébana is integrated by 17 places among which we can highlight Bárago, Dobres and La Vega (capital of the municipality) because of its highest population. It´s located in the western end of Cantabria, and its mountainous situation and communication through the narrow pass of La Hermida, have made this one an isolated are. Numerous streams flow through this territory. It is necessary to highlight the valley of Cereceda and the mountain pastures of Rio Frio. Their extensive forests configure an exceptional habitat for those species like the roe deer, brown bear, wild boar, golden eagle, fox, etc. The main economic activities are cattle raising and agriculture. This are the bases on which the basic elements and well-known gastronomic offer are built: the lebaniego stew, the "orujo", the fruit, ... The landscape beauty makes this an important tourist exploitation. Standing out are the large shielded Baroque houses in Valmeo, Barrio, La Vega and Dobres, as well as the churches of San Jorge de Ledantes and Valmeo, this last one from the XV century.
