Located to the south east of the regional head, along this mountain area flows the Bullón river shaping a narrow valley. A beautiful landscape constituted by small villages, rich grassalnd and well conserved forests: evergreen oak groves in the lower areas and the hills of Lerones, and extensive oak and beech woods in the higher course. The basic local economic activity is centred around mountain cattle raising: cows (brown alpine, frisona, etc.), sheep and goats. On the other hand, the agriculture is based on the green meadows grown for the livestock and forage type crops. The gastronomy is sustained by the quality of our products: chickpeas, "orujo", cheese, etc. The Gothic churches of Caloca and Avellanedo stand out and civil architecture is represented by large houses of great quality from the XVIII century in Vendejo and Valdeprado, we can also highlight the popular architecture its several villages. |
