Located right on the National Park of Picos de Europa, is a land of high mountains, gorges and valleys furrowed by the Deva river. An obliged pass to get to this municipality and to most of the region of Liébana, is the impressive narrow gorge of La Hermida. People here make the most of the singular climate in order to obtain many products which are not common in the rest of Cantabria: for example, diverse fruit of great quality. Cattle raising, used as base for cheese making, the vine for the "orujo-making", and tourism, are the main activities on which the municipality´s economy is sustained. The church of Santa María de Lebeña, of Mozarabic style and founded in 925, is the most characteristic element of the artistic patrimony, completed by the large house and medieval tower of the Ceballos family, in San Pedro de Bedoya, dated on the XVIII century. |

out for their population: Ojedo, Lebeña, Bejes, Tama (municipality´s
capital) and Pendes.
