The municipality of Cabezón
de Liébana is made up by a total of 12 villages, standing out
by the villages of: Frama, Piasca, and Cabezón de Liébana.
Located in the Liébana region, on the south-west of Cantabria,
it extends from the southern slope of Peña Sagra´s mountain
range. It is a mountainous territory, hollowed by those valleys shaped
by the rivers of Aniezo and Cabra. The peak, El Cuernón, 2,042
high, stands out over the whole group of the Peña Sagra range.
Its inhabitants are mainly farmers and shepherds. In these last years,
the industry of orujo-making and rural tourism have opened new economic
alternatives for the people in the valley.
Within its monuments we can highlight; the church of Santa María
de Piasca, from the XII century, main example of the Romanesque art
in Cantabria, the Cantabro-Roman stella of Luriezo, and the popular
architectural groups in the villages of Aniezo and Cambarco.
